The news was left accidentally by an X engineer (Enrique) working on the project, who revealed that Android users can access this functionality through a straightforward after update the app. Any user of X can receive calls, but only paid users can make calls. This blog post will guide you through basic steps to make audio-video call on X for Android users and answer some questions you might have about it.

    How to Make X Audio-Video Calls on Android Users?

    X (Twitter) has introduced a new feature for users audio-video calls on Android. X audio-video calls were first available for iOS users in October 2023 and are currently being extended to Android users. To utilize X audio-video calls, you must have the updated version of the X app on your Android phone and activate the audio-video calling feature in the settings. Here’s a general guide on how to make audio-video calls on X for Android users:

    • Open the X app on your Android phone to make X audio-video calls.
    • Access your direct messages (DMs) by tapping the envelope icon.
    • Start a new conversation or Tap on an existing (DM) conversation. 
    • Click on the phone icon and select either an audio call or a video call. 
    • When you make a call on X, they will receive a notification. If they don’t answer, they’ll see a missed call alert.

    Steps to Manage an Audio Calls on X

    During an audio call, you have the option to:

    • Click the audio icon to activate the speaker.
    • Use the microphone icon to mute or unmute your microphone.
    • Terminate the call by tapping the X button.

    Steps to Manage Video Calls on X

    During a video call, you have the option to:

    • Toggle between the front and back-facing cameras by clicking the flip camera icon.
    • Disable speaker mode by clicking the audio icon.
    • Deactivate your camera by clicking the camera icon.
    • Silence your microphone by clicking the microphone icon.
    • Terminate the call by clicking the X button.

    How to Control Who Can Call You on X?

    The duration for the complete rollout to all Android users remains uncertain. Still, it needs to be specified in X’s Help Centre which tier is required to access the outbound audio-video calling perk. Here we examine the steps to control who can call you on X:

    • Click the envelope icon to access your direct messages (DMs).
    • Click the settings icon in the upper right corner to access your message settings.
    • Turn on or off the audio-video calling feature based on your preference.
    • If the feature is activated, you have the option to select who can contact you from the following choices:

                      Users you follow.

                      Contacts in your address book.

                      Individuals with a premium subscription.

                      Verified accounts.

    • You can also activate improved call privacy to conceal your IP address from other callers.

    How Improved Call Privacy on X Audio-Video Calls

    X now features an improved call privacy setting to safeguard your personal information. When this feature is activated, your IP address will be concealed from individuals you make calls to and receive calls from. In particular, when both participants in a call have this option turned off (the default setting), the call is directly routed between the two parties after our servers assist in the initial setup. Each participant’s IP address might become visible to the other.
