There is the risk that you might lose valuable information to hackers that wish to spy on you, or steal important data. There is thus a need for such software that shields your PC and mobile phone from external threats. But you don’t necessarily need expensive antivirus software to protect your PC, by implementing a few obvious and logical methods of web browsing in your everyday life; you can effectively eliminate a large number of threats by just being cautious.

Security Threats in a Nutshell:

Though there are literally thousands of ways hacker might try to gain access to your data, some of the more common methods they use to threaten your PC over the internet is defined as under:

Spam Mails:

These are unwanted emails that you see flooding your inbox every day, hundreds of them. The spam mails are usually disguised as advertisements for online products or local businesses, and trick you into clicking on some link that will take you to some malicious website or initiate the download of some computer virus.

Phishing Mail, Identity Theft:

Phishing Mails and identity theft are terms that are related, usually one leads to another. Phishing mails are a bit like spam mails, but they are designed in such a way that they appear to come from some trusted website, like eBay, PayPal, or some mainstream search engine. These mail(s) are fake, and direct you to a page that mimics such trusted websites; it may even ask you to enter your user ID, passwords, or even banking details like credit card numbers, account access codes, etc. Thus you are tricked into providing your most personal details to a seemingly “Trustable” website. This process by which hackers gain access to your professional details is called Identity Theft, they may use your information to make purchases on your behalf. In extreme cases, there may even be some illegal or terrorist activity that will lead investigators directly to you because your identity may have been used.

Spyware:

Spyware is a general term, used for Trojan viruses and crawlers that hackers may use to keep track of your online activity, the websites you frequently visit, the content you upload or download, etc.

Antivirus can help improve Internet Security:

Such breaches on your security can be effectively minimized by using antivirus software(s) that can be purchased online, or downloaded from the internet.
